Well written and a timely article AB!

Those who are currently managing thousands of VMs and want to move to container based platforms with kubernetes based orchestration - you should seriously consider CNV technology to quickly move vm workloads to container platforms.

CNV is now an add-on to OpenShift Container Platform that allows you to run and manage virtual machine workloads alongside container workloads.

Container-native virtualization adds new objects into your OpenShift Container Platform cluster via Kubernetes custom resources to enable virtualization tasks. In essence, CNV removes redundancy of managing two different environments (VMWare stack for legacy vm workloads and OCP for modern container based workloads).

Though this is a tech-preview feature on OCP today, I get quite a lot of enquiries, questions, clarifications on this topic. As cnv on ocp matures over the next few months, I expect to see quite a bit of movement from legacy vm environment to containers!

My recommendation is to start moving your vm workloads to OCP on RHEL or RHV as transient environment so when CNV is enterprise-grade, it should be a quick move.

Exciting stuff!
